Great list and thoughts! Thanks for sharing!

I've never thought about a link between Dirty Old Town and The Broad Majestic Shannon (which in my opinion is the best song EVER written in the history of the mankind), but I think I somehow understand what you mean!

Thanks everybody for the comments! It was a blast to put together, even if it took many days. The fact that other people enjoyed it makes it that much sweeter.

Loved reading this thanks.

I don't think my list would differ a great deal. Great to see London You're a Lady a favourite because I consider it one of the band's most under-rated songs.

I guess we all have our quirks and I just don't care for Fiesta (though it was a more-than-decent finale at the live gigs) and the Old Man Drag anywhere near as much as I expect other fans do.

Great effort! Thanks for posting.

Altough I couldn’t get past mid-page, it’s much too irritating to see how other people see the songs I love… :D

Damn fine list and I very much enjoyed the blog.

Young Ned would be very much higher up the list for me. So would Wildcats, which apart from anything is the best Pogues' track ever to have been the theme tune of a kids' TV programme.

Hell's Ditch would be a lot higher too, and "Wake". And Greenland would be top 10 in this house, I think. But then if I'm going to quibble I should do my own list.

Hi Jacob, welcome to the Raft. Wow, you put a hell of a lot of effort into your blog and i really enjoyed reading every word. Of course we will not all agree on a specific order for the songs, but your reasoning and explanations behind the choices made their selections mostly justifiable
We must have very similar taste as i would only disagree with a few of your choices.....

Like Soulfinger (above) i would have placed 'Young Ned' much higher but your criteria that "If Shane couldn't be bothered to sing it......." sealed it's fate :(

The instrumental tracks were also treated harshly for the same reason....... 'Wildcats Of Kilkenny' The worst of the worst???? I'd have to have that in my top 20. It may not have Shane's vocals but it has his visions, attitude and swagger. Another of your criteria was...... wild, screaming, Irishness........ errrrrr........ Wildcats has shitloads of that

Thanks for an entertaining read and it's made me think of my top Pogues' songs....... trouble is they change from week to week depending on my mood.

Curiously, and i can't answer why, but i nearly always skip past 'Sickbed'. What's that all about

I know everybody's entitled to be wrong, but what's Young Ned doing so far down the list? Madness I tell you!

I've lurked here for a long time, but this is my first post. I've been a Pogues fan since 2016 (my senior year of college). They truly changed my life.

For years, I've considered ranking their songs mostly as an excuse to put words to my feelings. I figure if I'm going to share it anywhere, this is the place.

Well done, & now let the fighting start!

First off, if we're ever in the same town, I will buy you a beer and argue the merits of "Wild Cats of Kilkenny". Secondly:

In fact, Andrew's brilliant vocal on "Star Of The County Down" was originally released on the b-side of "White City" in 1989, so well within Shane's tenure. Although i suppose b-sides fall out side the scope of your survey, but i just wanted sub in as Captain Pedantic for today. I look forward to your ranking of b-sides.

That sentence is a great piece of writing right there it is.

Welcome to the raft, and nice list! That's a labour of love, not sure that I could work out a ranking like that... 8)
