Just read this topic through and I gotta ask, is there any change in finding 5-string banjo tabs for The Pogues songs? A book or a site?

And I miss Phil Chevron. What a great guy he was. It still is helpful to read his comments here on all things Pogues.

It's meant for mandolin but generally works well for GDAE Tenors.

Does anyone no where I can find any tenor tabs for some pogues song, and shane mcgowan and the popes ones to if you have them, I was looking everywhere but nothing!! :x

I use this in my band (with a very loud drummer right behind me), Blood Or Whiskey and as far as i know even Jem uses it. Good sound and almost no problems with feedbacking (most times a loud banjo in the monitor causes that, by the way)

I play Tenor Banjo and I know thats not what Jem uses but it does sound good for some songs like Streams of Whiskey and Sally Maclennane and Popes one slike Nancy Whiskey.
Anyway i like playing jigs and reels in the style of Barney McKenna ( well not quite that well )

What i really ned to know is what is the best way to amplify the banjo ?
I recently purchased a replacement bridge with a pickup made by shadow which works great, but as soon as the drummer and bass player start up it feeds back something rotten. I am playing mandolin in a band but i would really like to play tenor banjo but cant risk going on stage and giveing everyone a headache with feedback. Does anyone know of a better pickup system for banjo .??

You can try this version, it looks rather allright - it´s in D (starting note is D), although I´ve seen it played in G most of the time...

I can't read music, but I can write down the notes and then tab it if I have a key. That takes a while because I have to look up the note on the fretboard, and the notes on the music sheet.

My banjo's in open G tuning, g D G B D, the standard one. I'd love tabs. Thanks.

I´m with you on this one :-) I do believe it´s kind of obvious this guy doesn´t play much ITM. Of course, voice ornamentation is a beautiful thing to do, especially with sean-nos songs, or some slower tunes, but it shouldn´t be the main thing - the main body has to be solid voice. Kevin Conneff is a good example, in my opinion. I know what you mean with high voiced women :-D I´m fed up with them (unless they´re really good) - looking like they´re gonna die any second while singing (I don´t like wannabefeelerofthemusic facial gymnastics too much with singers).

Anyway, can you read music? If so, there are some sheet music on the internet, or MIDI files you can open. If only tabs...but tabs aren´t that good, they don´t tell you the rhytm. Anyway, if you tell me tuning of your banjo, I could probably try to write a tab, but I can´t say if it´s gonna be any good, I´m no banjo player :-)

There are two tunes called Sally Gardens (or Down by the Sally Gardens), do you mean the slower song (starting with G, I think), or the bouncy one (starting with A)?

Anyway, both are pretty simple, or should be :-)
