It's Paddy Rolling stone, the forum of the Shane MacGowan website.

Thanks again, firehazard, I'd forgotten that Shane's site was called that for a long time.

Thanks, firehazard! And Zuzana, too, for the info back then. Does a lilt basically mean humming a tune with random syllables in a pleasant Irish accent? And what is the PRS forum? It's too bad Socrates didn't get credit if he wanted it, I think he added a lot to the atmosphere of the tune/record.

There was a discussion about this on here years ago, if I can find it...

Here you go, leadshoes: http://www.pogues.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8857

Back in the dawn of time, Zuzana supplied the info:

This was discussed at PRS forum some time ago. It is indeed Dingle Regatta and it is sung by the man who calls himself Socrates at PRS.

Socrates’ comments (originally posted at PRS forum):
"The lilt on end of Kitty came froma crazy idea in the pub with Shane, I suggested a mad Psyched out lilt at end of Transmetropolitan. i forgot all about until Shane said they wanted ME to do it. a few weeks later i found myself at Elephant but the day was running late an they decided to just have me say something in irish ( F in inter cert ) with a wee lilt. both James and Shanes attempt to stop me speeding up were in vain and it was the wrong tempo so it didnt work for intended purpose . listening to it now it was the right tempo in parts but then again its the right tempo in parts for most any feckin song, so it twas stuck on end of album, something missed by most people incuding whoever recut it, Danny Kelly give it a mention in the NME review at the time as did Dave Quantick. the fact that Dingle Regatta came out was lost on me until the re-issue. i only had two regrets
1. false modesty when asked by Stan what i wanted as credit i said "nothing"
2. " nil aon...." was the first thing that came into my head and i wish straight away i had repeated Michael O' Hares famous saturday afternoon phrase on RTE. "sin a bhfui ag coursai sport" - excuse spelling (F in inter cert)."

Whose voice is that after the end of Kitty?

Post by leadshoes Wed Feb 05, 2014 9:06 am

The voice that comes in about 14 seconds after the song finishes and says something like "a nin hintorn a hintorn finn....d-diddly-ay d-diddly-ay, etc.? As far as I can tell, it doesn't sound like anyone in the band at the time. And does anyone understand what he's saying, is it Gaelic? I've always wondered, but never bothered to wonder out loud. Anyway, I think it's a nice strange little way to end the song & album on a light note after the doomy goodbye of Kitty.
