Never mind. Looks like it was Shane's baby after all. Whatever the case, it's an original.

Was under the impression it was co-written with Jem Finer. Could probably find the answer in Fearnley's book, but can't be bothered to get off my ass and go into the other room just now.

I've no issue with the question being asked and wasn't trying to be arguementative, but every credit I've ever read for Streams of Whiskey makes it pretty clear the whole song was written by Shane. The comment "no apparent mention of the tune" just made it read to me that Jonah was assuming he didn't write it, and I was querying why. And yes, I'm well aware of his habit (in the Irish tradition) of 'borrowing' tunes, but I think that a) that happened much more when he was with the Popes and the creative well was running dry, and b) it's been very overplayed anyway. There are a wealth of songs Shane wrote that bear no relation to any other tune, and unless someone can tell me different Streams of Whiskey is one of them.

I think Jonah's is a fair question, i've certainly found lots of music i'd not known about by the fact that Shane borrowed from a wealth of existing or historical pieces.

Shane wrote both the lyrics and the music for Streams of Whiskey. Why would you assume otherwise?

The Tune of Streams of Whiskey

Can anyone inform me of the origins of the tune that IS - Streams of Whiskey?

All credits seem to be clear that the LYRICS are by Shane, but no apparent mention of the tune.

It is one of my favourites, and if it is traditional tune, I would like to find its name.

Can anyone help here, please?
