Just to give you a heads-up: showtime, both nights at the Wiltern, for the Pogues, is 10.15 - a late one, at least for me, being a parent and all. I do prefer the nine to nine-thirty thing. Seems much more civilized and growed up and everything. Ten fifteen veers toward the clubbish.
On a showtime note, I would have to say that we arrived at the rising bollards at the back entrance to the House Of Blues in plenty of time, in Anaheim, but were required to remain in the van while our picture ID's and passports were processed by a man in a darkened booth. Andrew had stomach trouble which raised the stakes a little and required us to motor round the corner to a nearby hotel, hoping that the man in the darkened booth would have finished processing our details by the time we returned. However, by the time we returned, his computer had crashed and the process had ground to a standstill. Well, yes we could have driven off to another entrance, but this being Disneyland, that could have taken some time. A fat obnoxiously self-righteous man waddled up and huffily and unhelpfully said "Well if you'd been here earlier", and then some other security men came up, and on bicycles and even someone in a car. So, we sat in the van for near enough thirtyfive, forty minutes, helpless and all this within ten minutes of showtime. So sorry about the late going on. We did everything right.
As it turned out, the raised bollards were no more than twentyfive yards round the corner from the backstage door. If we'd known that, we'd probably have rushed the security booth.
The passes they gave us have Mickey Mouse on them. I wasn't required to show it to anyone at all inside the building.
One of our crew, who had the same difficulty earlier on in the afternoon, said fuck it and went round the front and got into the House Of Blues that way, he told me, without having to present his picture ID.
